Each coach exercising on behalf of HEC Executive Education and the International Association of Certified Coaches HEC Paris commits to act as a professional and to adopt a behaviour in respect with the ethical & deontological rules such as described in the Chart here below.
This Chart is established in continuum of the HEC Executive Education Coaching School Chart. It aims to favour the business integration as well as the professional evolution of the coaches certified by HEC Paris.
1- The intention of the coach
The approach of the coach is to accompany his/her client, which can be a person, a team or an organization, in full awareness of the expressed needs.
This accompaniment is efficient thanks to the benevolent posture of the coach: to listen without filters and judgement, to guide without intention for the client, to interact ethically in coherence with the values and principles of this Chart.
2- Company and business knowledge and experience
The coach focuses in priority on the professional context.
A good knowledge of the business world and it's organisations is essential in order to be able to have a good insight of the clients' issues and to be able to position those in the professional context.
Thus, the coach is able to account for a professional experience in a company / organization and if possible in a management position and/or accompanying professionals.
3- In-depth personal work
The work as a coach is a constant relationship among the coach and the client where the coach has always to remain aware of his/her own personal limitations in order to evaluate possible limitations or influences on the client. Hence, the coach needs to accomplish a personal work of analysis or personal development through a recognized practice (psychoanalysis, analytical, behavioural or cognitive psychotherapy…).
4- Basic training in psychology and human factors
Un important part of the coaching action is the work on the understanding of the relational interaction and the environment where unconscious mechanisms such as transfer, counter-transfer… can happen.
Thus, its mandatory to understand the basics of psychology and to be aware of the mechanisms operating in a relation. This knowledge can either be acquired through a personal work such as a didactic psychotherapy, specific trainings (e.g. seminars) or in any academic format.
5- Knowledge of the fundamentals of coaching
The coach certified by one of the programs of the HEC Coaching School is a pluralist regarding coaching technics and firmly centred on the human. He/she demonstrates as a practitioner his/her capability to structure and to conduct a coaching conversation. Therefore, he/she disposes of the principal tools of coaching which have been acquired within the framework of the training delivered by HEC Executive Education and/or in another recognized school of coaching and/or through the practice of several years of experience.
6- Ongoing supervision
Each coach needs to have a moment of exchange to analyse his/her own practice. Therefore a regular follow-up with a confirmed supervisor individually or with a group of pairs is essential. A therapeutic conversation when need be can also allow the coach to deal with the personal aspects which could be activated by the coaching practice.
7- Maintaining of competencies and ongoing professional development
The coach commits to maintain his/her professional competencies by a regular practice and to develop them further through adequate trainings and/or actions of continued professional development and/or in participating in workshops with pairs.
In addition, the coach also contributes to the professional community in the way which is the most adapted to his/her talents and his/her personal situation (groups of good practice exchange, examination boards, articles, reviews or any other publication …)
